Through the Keyhole

I’ve been writing this blog for a while now and just noticed that I’ve never actually taken you for a tour of my home in Jsindo. So here you go, this is where I escape to when I want a bit of quiet time.

The decor changes with the seasons, so at the moment, as May is Walk Your AS Off month, the balloons and changeable decor are in blues and oranges. Pop round later in the year as I celebrate hallowe’en by decorating the garden like nobody’s business!

Time to Deco(c)rate

Charmed Archway & Fence set by Raven Wood (LI13 & 2ea)

So, after the success of the SwagBagsMadPea have released another mystery crate. It’s the same price as the SwagBag (L$1,500 before release, L$3,000 after release) and it’s filled with great stuff from some of SL’s Top Designers.

This month’s theme was “November Rain” and the designers really ran away with the theme, designing everything from gazebos and umbrellas to set pieces and furniture to cuddle up and watch the rain through the window from. They’re all absolutely beautiful, however – one word of warning, quite a few of them will eat up your extra prim allowance that LL have provided us with!

Anyway, let’s get some links to the designers:

Remember, Remember the Fifth of November

remember-rememberThis poem is very well known, not just because of the film “V for Vendetta”. It’s a poem about the Gunpowder Plot, when Guy Fawkes and a group of Catholics planned to overthrow (Protestant) King James VI and the government.

They were going to do this by blowing up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament. The plan was actually led by a man called Robert Catesby. Guy Fawkes was the explosives expert and was going to set off the explosion and then escape to the continent.

The plot was thwarted and the group arrested and put to death. Since then Brits have celebrated Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night every year on 5th November. For the first couple of years this was by law, although now it’s just a tradition.

To celebrate it in SL I wasn’t able to find a guy (I have an old no-copy one made in the days of flexi prims, but that’s not great on a bonfire). So I asked in the Homestuff Group (it’s a great group if you’re looking for help and advice on Decoration) and had a few suggestions I opted for the Fyreworks Bonfire – L$250 (It’s NC I’m afraid) with the Bad Katz Mesh Scarecrow – L$145, Land of Nodd Mesh Guy Fawkes Mask (Free) and the Bad Katz Fireworks (L$400).

I think it turned out OK…

All secure in the station

starland-security_004As I mentioned yesterday, one of the things that’s missing from the Starland Modular Space Station is a security room. So I’ve taken a few bits and pieces and thrown them together inside the SMSS Module A to make something up:

starland-security_001

Cells: Isil Mobile Holding Cell – L$146
Monitor: . S C H W A C K ~ SciFi ~ Terminals Pack 1 – L$250 (with single prim attachment by Ethan)

starland-security_003

Desk: MP Design – “Space” Line Heavy Desk – L$200 (NO COPY ITEM)
Chair: [:AT:] Scifi Chair – L$100
Monitors: Specian Heavy Industries Monitor Display Wall – L$250

Weapons Locker: . S C H W A C K ~ SciFi – Armory Pack 1 – L$250
Container: . S C H W A C K ~ SciFi – Armory Pack 1 – L$250

You’ll see a few examples from S C H A W C K – and there’s going to be even more to follow when I start setting up my Lab facilities too! In fact, there might even be room for a post all about them.

The Book of Daniel

I visited the Book of Daniel today, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But it’s a small shopping area put together by some of SLs fantastic content creators in support of Daniel Estro who’s involved in Zerkalo, Shiny Shabby and The Crossroads. Daniel has cancer and needs financial help for his treatment. The full story is available on a notecard that you can collect from the welcome area.

There are some beautiful things to buy, with donations going directly to Daniel and his partner. It’s running from 10th – 20th September and is well worth a visit. Even if there are very few mens clothes, the decor is beautiful.

These Are The Voyages

I mentioned previously my love of Black Bishop Innovation‘s static spaceship, the Epsilon. While buying the Epsilon I also bought a couple of shuttles. Well, I say shuttles, but the level of detail and intricacies that I love in the Epsilon are mirrored in the Calliope and the Sojourner.

Delta_FlyerThe Calliope is related to the Delta Flyer made famous in Star Trek: Voyager. I must admit that I found it very difficult to fly, but it looks great sat on the ground, waiting to be used. With its access ramp at the back, two small bunks, a multi-functional seating area (which seats 4),  the total number of seats is 10 plus the two bunks. As I said, I’m not currently using it for flying due to its bulk and difficulties flying it. But it’s sat on my parcel in Sebastian and you’re welcome to come and see it.

It’s the first item that I’ve bought which rezzes from a HUD rather than a rezbox. But even that HUD is breathtaking, allowing you to change the colour scheme, livery, and also the moving parts such as the nacelles, the ramp and even the built in shadow. And my favourite part? The HUD attaches to the top right corner, instead of the usual top left.

This really is one of those things (like all things BBI) that needs to be seen to be believed, so if you want to have a look for yourself, why not visit them in Forsetti?

Space… The Final Frontier

As I’ve mentioned before, I regularly have a couple of different styles of parcels running at once. I recently changed my parcel in Sebastian and removed the Ethan Explores offices (I didn’t have many visitors). And was deciding what to do with it. Previously it had Liberty Rising, the location for my blog stories based around Bash Quandry’s space stations.

But (as I mentioned in my blog post about Bash’s amazing work), technology in SL has moved on and now we have mesh. One of Bash’s contemporaries (and someone who works closely with him) is Janey Suen at BBI (Black Bishop Innovation).

After seeing the updated mesh version of the Calliope being discussed in the BBI chat I decided to revisit. I liked the update and did buy one (I’ll be writing about it later). But today I wanted to talk about the Epsilon. This is a decent sized livable static spaceship with auto-rez functions throughout. It’s not available in the Marketplace but it’s right next to the entrance of the mainstore inworld.

It costs L$4499 and weighs in at 532 LI (unfurnished) and 791 LI (fully furnished), and with a 64x48m footprint, you’re going to need at least a 4096m parcel. But if you have one and are looking for a good RP spaceship then I can highly recommend this one! (And don’t worry – I will be covering the uniforms that I’m wearing in a later blog post too!)
